<p>1471177 Oil recovery MARATHON OIL CO 25 July 1974 [9 Aug 1973] 32897/74 Heading E1F A process for the recovery of crude oil from an oil-bearing subterranean formation comprises injecting into the formation a micellar dispersion containing a hydrocarbon, a petroleum sulphonate having an average equivalent weight in the range 350 to 525 and an aliphatic to aromatic proton ratio in the hydrocarbon part of the molecule in the range 4 to 20 moles/mole, and a cosurfactant, wherein there is used a micellar dispersion formulated according to the following procedure: titrating at least one cosurfactant or mixture of cosurfactants against a series of petroleum sulphonates of a given average equivalent weight within the above-mentioned range but of varying aliphatic to aromatic proton ratios within said range, measuring the concentration range over which the cosurfactant or cosurfactant mixture gives rise to a stable micellar dispersion for each of the petroleum sulphonates plotting a graph of the various aliphatic/aromatic proton ratios on a logarithmic scale against the mid-point-values of the corresponding measured concentration ranges plotted on an arithmetic scale, thereby to obtain at least one linear plot of proton ratio us mid-point cosurfactant concentration, and using said plot to select a particular sulphonate for a given cosurfactant or vice versa, and mixing the selected sulphonate and given cosurfactant, or the selected cosurfactant and given sulphonate, as the case may be, with the hydrocarbon. The cosurfactant may be selected from amyl, alcohol, iso-octanol, oxygenated hydrocarbons, n- and secondary hexanol, iso-propanol, butyl alcohol, nonyl phenol, methanol, mixtures of aliphatic C 10-14 alcohols and ethoxylated alcohols.</p> |
