The steam produced during the wet quenching of hot coke is condensed by heat exchange with a refrigerant which is circulated in a closed circuit. The condensate is discharged together with its content of coke dust, and the refrigerant, pref. a fluorine compound, is evaporated to drive an expansion turbine. This combines a suppression of environmental pollution by coke dust with a useful recovery of waste heat contained in the hot coke.
|
