This device comprises a stationary jaw (14) and a movable jaw (16) which are connected together at their ends by two parallel pivoting small rods (28, 30) for guiding the displacement of the movable jaw (16) in translation over a portion of a circle, and each comprise a stationary jaw piece (36, 37) and a movable jaw piece (38, 39) perpendicular to the stationary jaw piece and sliding on the opposite jaw. These jaws are mounted between two mutually parallel flanges each pierced with an orifice corresponding to the compression cavity in its extreme positions. After the introduction of a cork into the cavity (48), a cam (50) gives rise, by means of a roller (46), to the pivoting of the small rod (30) in the direction of the arrow (F) which produces the translation, over a circular trajectory, of the movable jaw (16) until the cork is compressed to the dimension of the emptying orifice (20). A pusher element then ejects the cork and pushes it into a bottle. <IMAGE>
