The shoe-cream can has a lower part (1) for the shoe cream, an application sponge (2), a sleeve (3) holding the said sponge and a lid (4). The sleeve (3) bears two projections (9) which are attached to flexibly resilient tongues (10), and is guided in the lid (4) such that it can be axially displaced. When the can is assembled, the tongues (10) can be displaced within slots (5) in the lid (4) and, when the can is closed, latch into upper side slots (6) and in the open or working position latch into lower side slots (7). As the tongues protrude out of the slots (5) in the lid (4) they, and thus the sleeve carrying the sponge (2), can be released by finger pressure and then displaced. The sleeve (3) is therefore locked immovably in its working position in the lid (4) even when vigorously working over the shoes. When the can is closed, the tongues (10) close the slots (5); which results in the shoe cream being packed in a virtually air-tight manner. <IMAGE>
