The boom has a central arm (10) serving as main girder and designed as a lattice structure. This arm (10) carries two parallel rows of floating, vertically disposed screening panels (40, 42). The latter are guided in a vertically displaceable manner in rails (44) of the arm (10). Lying between the two rows are guide blades (70) for guiding the surface flow to one end of the arm (10), at which a skimming unit (18) is located, when the surface water flows obliquely against the arm (10). Adjoining the arm (10) are extension arms (14) which enlarge the area of water surface which can be covered. The extension arms (14) likewise have floating, vertically disposed screening panels (62). The extension arms (14) are pivotably linked to the arm (10) and can be swung back onto the latter. <IMAGE>
