PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as raw materials for various chemicals, etc., on an industrial scale at a low cost, by contacting a chelating reagent with microbial cell containing D-alpha-amino acid amide hydrolase and reacting a DL-alpha-amino acid amide with said cell or treated cell. CONSTITUTION:A chelating reagent (e.g., ethylenediamine-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid) is made to contact with cell of a microorganism containing D-alpha-amino acid amide hydrolase [e.g., Rhodococcus erythropolis NR-28 (FERM P-8938)] and the obtained cell or its treated product is reacted with a DL-alpha-amino acid amide of formula [R is (substituted) lower alkyl, (substituted) phenyl, furyl, pyridyl, thiazolyl, imidazolyl or indolyl] (e.g., DL-valine amide) to obtain a D-alpha-amino acid (e.g., D-valine) corresponding to the above DL-alpha-amino acid amide. |
