The flange-less butterfly valve has a housing (1) contg. a valve stem at right angles to the direction of flow, a valve disc (3) on the stem inside the housing. Housing end faces with annular grooves are engaged by portions of the valve sleeve (4) which acts as a seal on the connecting flange faces and around the disc periphery. The cross-section of the grooves forms an angle of which the two sides intersect at approx. the centre of the width of the annular sealing face. The inclinations of the two sides relative to a plane at right angles to the flow direction may be unequal.
