Novel p, p"-bis-quaternary ammonium salts of pterphenyl, and their process of preparation are provided of (I) wherein each X is the same and is ?(R)2R' or ?(CH)4R', R and R' are each lower alkyl and Y is C6H5SO? or Hal, where Hal is a halide ion; the salts are nondepolarizing muscle relaxants possessing high potency and selectivity of action and can be used in medicine to block the neuromuscular con; duction in surgical operations.
