1472775 Carboxymethoxysuccinic acid and its salts UNILEVER Ltd 25 June 1974 [25 June 1973] 28107/74 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions A1-A3 and C6] Carboxymethyloxysuccinic acid or salts thereof are prepared by dissolving maleic anhydride in water and adding glycolic acid, refluxing in the presence of Ca(OH) 2 , and sodium carbonate added, the thus formed trisodium carboxymethyloxy succinate is purified by recrystallization from aqueous alcohol, redissolved in water and passed through an acid form ion exchange column, the carboxymethyloxy succinic acid product is then neutralized with NaOH, KOH or NH 4 OH to produce the mono-, di-, or trisodium, potassium or ammonium carboxymethylsuccinate. Lactoxysuccinic acid may be prepared by employing lactic acid in place of glycolic acid. |
