Liquid, in particular water or aqueous solns., is distilled using steam generated during the cooling of a blast furnace as heating medium. After at least partial condensation this steam is returned to the blast furnace cooling system. The blast furnace cooling can continue even when the still is not working. The prodn. of distillate continues when the furnace stops. The still works under optimal conditions independent of the variations in steam flow from the furnace. A still can be designed to match a new installation even though the steam flow from the furnace cannot be accurately predicted. |
