Compound expansion cross-flow turbine - has hot gas entering rotor blades tangentially from outside and leaving radially to outside

The turbine uses a bladed rotor through which a hot compressible fluid flows radially, whilst expanding. The expansion ratio is pref. in excess of 1.5. The fluid enters the blades from the outside in approximately tangential direction, partially expanding and cooling as it passes to the inside where it enters into and passes through a region of reduced pressure and temp. From here it again passes through the blades to the outside whilst further expanding with corresponding drop in temp. The relative velocity of the fluid emerging from the blades is opposite to the direction of rotor rotation.
