New mitomycins and processes for production thereof. Mytomycin represented by general formula: <CHEM> Wherein X is amino, substituted amino, hydroxyl or alkoxy; Y is hydrogen, methyl, -COR<1> wherein R<1> is hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl, or -CH2CH2Z wherein Z is alkyloxycarbonyl, acyl or cyano; RA is hydrogen and RB is -CH2OH or -CH2OSO2R<2> wherein R<2> is alkyl or aryl, or RA and RB combine to form = CH2; and RC is hydrogen or alkyl. In spite of the above definition, when RA is hydrogen and RB is -CH2OH, Y is -CH2CH2Z and when RA is hydrogen and RB is -CH2OSO2R<2>, Y is hydrogen or -CH2CH2Z, and processes for production thereof. The compounds are useful for sterilization of equipment, as washing agent with detergent or as medicament.
