The nozzle of an injection moulding machine is shaped to provide a full facial contact with the mould surface. Heat transfer between nozzle and tool is inhibited by a coating of a metallic oxide, pref. Zr oxide, on the nozzle/tool interface. Typically the Zr oxide coating is approx. 0.3 mm. thick. Combines a large nozzle/tool contact area (for alignment and wear-resistance) with a thick nozzle section (for adequate heat transfer to prevent setting up of material in the nozzle without risk of overheating of the melt), without extending moulding chill cycles due to heat losses to the tool from the nozzle.
|
