Process for replacing a halogen substituent with hydrogen in a halogenated aliphatic ether of methyl-methyl type or ethyl-ethyl type comprising reacting the ether with a primary or secondary alkanol and an inorganic base. The process is particularly useful for the production of certain inhalent anaesthetics.
