The sleeve (5) is used in the connection of a cluster of pipes (9) to a perforated plate (1), locating an individual pipe relative to a perforation or machined bore (4), and also locating a jet (7) together with an internal anti-corrosion liner tube (6). A partic. application is in the fabrication of a steam generator for a nuclear power plant. An internal radial shoulder (12) locates the liner tube with an annular gap, and the liner tube locating the jet. A fillet weld (13) fixes the liner tube in place and may be ground away to permit tube and jet replacement, the sleeve itself being welded (16) in the bore before being butt (11) welded to the pipe. The bore may be tapered to ensure that the only contact with the sleeve is in the weld (16) zone, and circumferential grooves (14) around the bores may limit the effect of welding stresses.
