A mechanical/electrical pulse generator (1) has two electrical change-over switches (S1, S2) which can be switched over with staggered timing by actuating a drive (40). A pulse receiver (2) contains a motor (10) with two phase windings (13, 14) for bipolar operation. The pulse generator (1) and the pulse receiver (2) are connected by means of an electrical line (3) to three conductors instead of the previously four or more conductors (24, 25, 26). One conductor (24) connects the alternating contact element (W) of one change-over switch (S1) to one end of the one phase winding (13). The second conductor (25) connects the alternating contact element (W) of the other change-over switch to one end of the second phase winding (14). The respective other end of the two phase windings (13, 14) is connected to one (16) of two connection terminals (16, 17) for feeding in alternating current. The other connection terminal (17) is connected via the third conductor (26) of the line (3) to two electrical valves (35, 37) with opposite polarity. One of the normally open contact elements and normally closed contact elements (A, R) of each change-over switch (S1, S2) is connected to one valve (35) and the other of the normally open and normally closed contact elements (A, R) of each change-over switch (S1, S2) is connected to the other valve (37). Smoothing capacitors (27, 29) are located parallel to the phase windings (13, 14) of the motor (10). Despite the use of a motor with two phase windings for bipolar operation, only two change-over switches are required in the pulse generator (1) and at most three electrical conductors are required between the pulse generator and the motor. The device can be used for example for monitoring the movement or position of a shut-off or flow control valve in a central control unit. <IMAGE>
