Process for the preparation of phenopicolinic acid, or salts thereof, and phenopicolinic acids prepared in this way, or salts thereof

The phenopicolinic acid of the formula I <IMAGE> or its salts are prepared by culturing the microorganism Paecilomyces sp. AF 2562 having the deposit number ATCC 20463. The microorganism is cultured in a medium which contains one or more assimilable carbon sources and one or more assimilable nitrogen sources, and then isolating the phenopicolinic acid or a salt thereof from the culture medium. The phenopicolinic acid and salts thereof have distinct hypotensive action.
