<p>The device improves upon the conventional vehicle brake light which can only operate in an on-off fashion by causing the brightness to increase with deceleration as the brake pedal moves. Whilst the electrical supply is connected to the brake lights (3) by a switch (1) activated by the pedal (2) in the usual way, the amount of current is governed by a potentiometer (7) connected in series. A dead weight (10) on a conducting arm (8) pivots as a pendulum in which vehicle deceleration causes a proportionate amount of forward inclination. The arm, forming part of the circuit, rubs against the exposed potentiometer coils thus translating the displacement into a change of the resistance. Maximum displacement causes the warning flashers (12) to be energised.</p> |
