The shut-off and dispensing unit is for free-flowing bulk material. A hopper has an outlet extending vertically downwards, and a body movable vertically up and down. The upper edge (1) of the outlet (2) extends into the hopper (3), to form a cushion of material (4) on the hopper bottom below the angle of slump of the material. The body (5) is suspended in the hopper above the outlet from a bar (6) and above the body is a bell-housing (7) keeping its top free of material. A tube (8) enclosing the bar extends upwards from the bell-housing and in the upper part of the hopper is an inlet for the material (9).
