7-[ beta -Aminoacylamino]-3-substituted-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid derivatives of the formula: <IMAGE> wherein R1 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, aryl or a heterocyclic group, R2 is hydrogen or lower alkyl, or R1 and R2 mean, taken together with the adjacent carbon atoms, cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl, R3 is hydrogen, lower alkylthio or a hetero cyclic-thio group, and M is hydrogen or a nontoxic, pharmaceutically acceptable cation, processes for the preparation of the same and composition thereof. These compounds are useful as antibacterial agents.
