<p>In the method of performing biological reactions with microorganisms which act on dissolved or suspended organic matter in aq. media in presence of dissolved and/or suspended gas, a portion of the reaction medium is subjected to ultrafiltration. The ultrafiltrate is withdrawn but the concentrate is (partly) recycled to the reaction mixt. by passing it through a depression-forming device (DFD) which aspirates a gas to be mixed with the reaction medium. Esp. an aq. suspension of microorganisms is circulated in a closed system consisting of reactor, pump, ultrafiltration appts, DFD, plus feed and withdrawal lines. An appts for the method is also claimed. Used esp for treating aq. effluent with activated sludge and O2, particularly where there are seasonal variations in the amt. of effluent and for hospitals etc. (an aseptic ultrafiltrate is prod). Excellent distribution of aspirated gas and savings in energy for gas injection are provided.</p> |
