<p>The fastener to fix a sink unit (18) or similar in an opening in a work top (12), uses a screw jack effect to force a spike (26b) into the edge (16a) of the work top. Continued screw rotation raises the edge of the sink to abut an overhang (14a). A catch (36) secures the fastener on a downturned vertical edge flange (20) of the sink. Rotation of the screw then lowers a stirrup (22) incorporating the spike on a cranked arm (26). The anchored element (34) of the fastener presents a rounded cam formation (40) which initially locates in the valley of the cranked arm. As the arm descends, its upper inclined length (26a) rides over the cam, thus, forcing the spike outwards until embedded in the working top. The spike may be incorporated on a doubly square return of the head of the arm, being directed downward.</p> |
