<p>The seal acts against a shaft passing through a wall, to separate two media, or both of which are liquids. It has a stationary annular continuous bead forming a seal round the shaft, together with coaxial annular structure for the bead on the same side of it as the fluid, so that a current of fluid is automatically brought into contact with the bead when the shaft rotates. The structure has two annular portions, separated from each other by a narrow or barely discernible gap, one on the shaft (1) and the other on the bead (2). One at least is grooved (6), to being a small quantity of fluid to the bead as the shaft turns.</p> |
