The fuel pump, partic. a unit consisting of a single or multi-stage pump (13) and an electric motor (2) for use in a motor vehicle, has its pump (13) arranged as a removable unit in or near a common housing (1) containing the motor. The rotating parts (17) of the pump are arranged on their own shaft (11) which is driven from the rotor (3) of the motor via a dog clutch (4, 4a, b) or similar. To centralise the motor relative to the pump, one or the other may have a shaft stub end (8) received with sliding fit in a recessed bore (8a) in the other component.
