<p>One of the surfaces of the moulding is provided with grooves and the grooves, are pref. distributed across the surface or are located only near the edges of the moulding. Instead of using grooves, blind holes may be employed in the surface. The grooves or blind holes can be formed in the moulding either during or after the moulding operation. The object is to prevent gaps appearing during adjacent mouldings when the furnace lining is first heated, such gaps impair the otherwise excellent thermal insulation provided by the mouldings. Used e.g. in furnaces using electric resistance heating where the ceramic fibre mouldings, bricks or blocks permit savings in lining wt. and much thinner linings due to the efficient thermal insulation.</p> |
