PURPOSE:To stably recover Ga for a long period, by bringing an aqueous solution containing Ga into contact with a granular material carrying a substituted quinolinol, adsorbing the Ga thereon and eluting the adsorbed Ga. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution containing Ga, e.g. an aqueous solution of sodium aluminate formed by the Bayer process, is brought into contact with a granular carbonaceous material, carrying a water-insoluble substituted quinolinol, e.g. 7-(1-vinyl-3,3,5,5-tetramethylhexyl)-8-quinolinol, etc., and having preferably >=10Angstrom pore diameter to adsorb the Ga on the granular carbonaceous material. Ga is then eluted from the granular carbonaceous material with an eluent, e.g. sulfuric acid or nitric acid in >=0.5mol/l concentration, etc., and recovered. The Ga can be smoothly recovered by readier operation and smaller loss of the water-insoluble substituted quinolinol into the aqueous phase than in a conventional liquid-liquid extraction method. Since the deterioration of the individual granular carbonaceous material to be a carrier is remarkably reduced as compared with that of resins, stable operation can be continued for a long period.
