A heat exchanger consists of an outer shell, and an inner tube formed as a plurality of tube portions such as 46, 48 interconnected in series by loops such as 44, the inner tube and outer shell being concentrically arranged at least at said tube portions, the inner tube passing in a bend through the walls of the outer shell to the outside of said shell on either side of at least one loop (e.g 44) of said tube, where said shell consists of a pair of pipes, e.g. 34, 36, each having an open end (e.g the lower end) with removable closing means (e.g a cover plate 50 or 52) thereon to permit cleaning of the shell adjacent the loop. The closing means may comprise a U-bend (e.g. 24 Fig. 3) interconnecting said pipes; or said pipes may be interconnected by a cross-over pipe 42. <IMAGE> |
