A prosthetic nail for stabilizing fractures in the supracondylar area of the femur has in its plan configuration, an elongated flat shape and tapers over a substantial portion of its entire length from a relatively thick head section to a relatively thin tip section. The nail, in its elevational configuration, has a thin elongated midportion with two curved ends. The larger head end has different inside and outside radii which cause it to be thickest at its extremity. The thinner tip end is shorter than the head end. The nail, in plain configuration, is about 279.4 mm. long. A hole for a lag screw is provided through the head end either at right angles to the elevational length of the nail or at a slight inward inclination thereto. The lag screw is threaded for retention in bone.
|
