NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic KA-7038 IV of formula I; it is a white powder, melts at 78-82 deg.C, has specific rotatory power of [alpha]D<25>=+115 deg. (C=0.1 H2O), formula of C14H30O5N4, a molecular weight of 334, and another antibiotic of formula II, KA-7038V, which is a white powder, has a specific rotatory power of [alpha]D<25> =+98 deg.C (C=0.5 H2O), formula of C14H30O4N4, and molecular weight of 318. USE:Antibiotics, which are effective against both gram-positive and -negative bacteria. PREPARATION:Streptomyces KC-7038 (FERM-4388) or its mutant is aerobically cultured at 20-35 deg.C for 2-10 days. The filtrate of the culture mixture is treated with ion exchange resin and others to give KA-7038 substances containing five components from I to V. Then they are adsorbed on ion exchange resin and eluted with aqueous ammonia to separate into each ingredient, which is further purified respectively. |
