Desalination plant - with two independent heat exchanger circuits for brine through expansion and heat recovery sections

A desalination plant to produce drinking water from sea water includes an expensive evaporator with multi-stage cooling and heat recovery sections. The heat exchangers in both sections are kept in separate circuits. The brine flows through the heat exchanger and is divided into two strands, pref. of equal throughput, and with an independent control. This ensures that there is no interruption in the drinking water supply during any necessary cleaning operations or in case of mechanical trouble in one section. No emergency stores of drinking water need therefore be kept.
