The operating mechanism has a motor-driven spindle and a feedback potentiometer that can be adjusted from the outside. The potentiometer is in series with a variable resistor or with a fixed replaceable resistor and changes the spindle's travel. The replaceable resistors are each held in their own socket for easy removal/insertion. Two motors are coupled together and the spindle is driven via a differential gear. The motors' rotors can be blocked if a motor fails so that the other motor alone provides the drive. The mechanism may be used for aircraft arming systems, for operating access doors in nuclear power stations, etc.
