The coins are of the same dia. and weight. The tester has at least one inclined track on which coins roll down in a vertical position and are scanned by a magnet which affects the coin run in accordance with its magnetic material content. A reception channel is at the coin path end in the area of a first trajectory of fall, and a rejection channel in the second and third trajectory area for coins whose path has been too little or too much affected by the magnet. The magnet (2) is provided close to the top edge of a coin (6) rolling on the track (3).
