<p>An electrostatic coating apparatus includes a housing with a porous support member mounted therein for defining a fluidized chamber and a plenum, high efficiency gas ionizing means spaced from the support member for furnishing the plenum with highly ionized gas, and baffle means made from an insulating material interposed in the gas flow path between the ionizing means and the support member for shielding the ionizing means and increasing the effective length of the gas flow path, so that ionized gas passes through the support member into the fluidization chamber to fluidize and electrostatically charge particulate material, the baffle means cooperating to isolate the ionizing means to avoid the passage of a substantial current therefrom to an effectively oppositely charged member disposed in the fluidization chamber.</p> |
