The chair or couch has the angle between backrest and seat adjustable by means of a clamping mechanism. The sections of supporting surface for the seat (1) and backrest (2) are flexibly joined together, and the clamping mechanism (3) engages with the upright edges (6) of both of the latter. The edges on opposite sides of the back rest can have curved slots (9) in which bolts, fitting in round holes of the seat edges, engage. A footrest can be fixed to the seat bottom comprising a bar onto which a detachable plate fits by means of a tubular holder.
