PURPOSE:To obtain 3-hydroxy-9-oxo-9,10-secopregna-1,3,5(10)-triene-20-carboxylic acid, by culturing mutants of microorganisms which belong to the genus Arthrobacter on a sterol substrate. CONSTITUTION:Mutants, e.g. Arthrobacter Simplex MCI-0808 and MCI-0868 which belong to the genus Arthrobacter are cultured on a sterol substrate, e.g. cholesterol or its oxidized intermediate, in a medium, e.g. 0.1-10 wt.% glyceride, to give the objective compound. The addition of 0.1-20 wt.% of vegetable oil and fat cake, e.g. linseed cake, to the medium further improves the yield. Compound free from hydrolase enzymes or deactivated ones which can produce the compound of formula may be used as the mutants. USE:A raw material for active vitamin D3. |
