Flat oxides has air jets mounted along the side. These are in the form of combined air-water jets in the wall of the oxidation tank. The jets are mounted in the upper third of the water level and are inclined at 20-35 degrees. The jets generate intensive vortices in the tank by using offset jets. The coarse settling zone is located after the oxidation zone. Liquor can be circulated round the active zone. Used for oxidising CaSO3, a prod. from exhaust gas scrubbing. Oxidiser gives reduced energy usage with prolonged contact time for the particles in the contact zone.
