In coal extraction in underground mining, the barrier (3) serves to screen the cutting area from open-air zones, normally involving high energy requirements when stability is needed in face of high-velocity air flow. Here the screen is a transparent one, in the form of a mixture of air and water. This can be supplied by an air and water guide pipe (1), outlet for air and water mixture (2), and attachment for compressed air (4) and water jet (5). Water nozzles inserted in the expanding air stream increases the specific weight of the transparent stream to provide a stable constant.
