Typically used in the fabrication of cooling condensers for nuclear power plants, the process fixes a thin walled cylindrical metal tube in a bore through a perpendicular plate. The plate and tube may be of bronze and titanium, shaping utilising a roller cage to effect radial tube expansion giving a compression joint. To promote a sealed structural union the bore is provided with circumferential grooves, plane bore sections interposing each groove, and the grooved sector having an axial length of is not 40% of the tube dia. Four such grooves may be provided with an effective depth of not less than 35% of the tube wall thickness, having triangular or isosceles trapezoidal cross sections.
|
