The spring cores of the mattress are separated from each other by separating faces (14, 15). The end winding parts of the helical springs (3, 4) adjoining these faces are embedded in at least one layer (18, 19) of foam or adhesive. This preferably covers the entire separating face and forms an articulated point. The separating faces is now so wide that the spring of the different cores do not contact each other as the mattress bends so that there is no noise. The thickness and elasticity of the foam layers should be such that the user notices no difference in the elasticity at the separating faces and spring cores.
