The shot-peening system is for workpieces rotated about their lengthwise axes, each being driven forward by a dog disengaging from it after passing through the treatment area. Only one dog (5) acts against the end of each workpiece (2), its action being controlled by the latter. The dog, initially movable freely, can be initially held in the ready position, being brought by the individual workpiece into engagement with it, and then temporarily driven through the treatment area and back to the ready position again.
