Caulking compsn. is claimed for sealing leaks in tanks and pipes contg. liqs. flowing under low pressure. The compsn has initially the consistency of a mastic during its prepn and is formed by mixing its components (A) and (B) each having a mastic consistency. component (A) is a mixt. of an epoxy resin which is normally liq. and a wax or waxy material. (B) is a mixt. of a liq. hardener for the resin and a wax or waxy material. The amt. of wax(y material) used is such that when (A) and (B) are mixed in predetermined amts. and applied into a crack, the resulting compsn. seals the leak soon after its application well before the resin has completely hardened. Used partic. for sealing leaks in tanks and pipes for fuel, kerosene, oil, water etc. flowing under a pressure of 0.35-0.70 kg/cm2 e.g. in aircraft wings. The compsn. acts as a temporary sealant which is effective for 4-10 hrs until a permanent repair can be effected. |
