The arrangement is intended for the coolant flow in the cylinder block (1) of a liquid-cooled combustion engine. The coolant is pumped in a direction from the crank towards the cylinder head in direct contact with the cylinder liner (2). The coolant space (7) surrounding the liner has a radial annular gap width (b), over most of its axial length, not exceeding 3.5% of the external liner diameter (D). Coolant entry and exit is either via two annular chambers (4, 5) around the liner or two diametrically opposed longitudinal ducts. The entry duct narrows and the exit duct widens towards the cylinder head.
