The front (3) of the cabinet (1) has a display case (4) closed on all sides and covered on the top by a glass panel (7). This display case is set level with the opening (34) through which the drawer inside the cabinet can be removed by authorised personnel and serves as a support shelf. The cabinet can thus store stamps or other valuable items set on drawer-like pallets (27) mounted in a frame (9) which can be displaced vertically (12) in the cabinet and then drawn out horizontally (37) into the display case (4) where they can be viewed and returned back into the frame without danger of theft.
