The silencer designed for use in high power ventilating systems and has several sound attenuating chambers. The chambers (9) are separate and exchangeable, and have inlet holes (8, 18) on their outer surfaces (3) facing the flow channels (2). They have baffles (5) inside providing a labyrinth-like path between the sets of holes (8) and (18). The silencer is constructed as a compact rectangular box with many vertical walls some of which are perforated (8, 18) and some have large openings (11, 12).
