<p>The gas mixt. is fed to the inlet of an adsorption bed which adsorbs >=1 component selectively. During this period >=1 adsorption zone is formed in the bed in which the adsorption of the component or components takes place. The front of the zone moves forward in the direction of the gas flow, but does not leave the bed. The feed of the gas is then stopped, and the pressure in the bed is lowered by drawing off from the outlet, a quantity of gas up to the moment at which the adsorption zone is on the point of leaving the bed. This gas is stored temporarily in a pressure vessels. Then gas is drawn off from the inlet, so that adsorbed gas is desorbed and is led away. The adsorbed bed is then blown through at lower pressure with gas obtd. in the first step of the lowering of the pressure in the adsorbent bed, until the remainder of the adsorbed components are desorbed and driven out. Finally, the pressure in the bed is raised to its original value by gas obtd. in the first step and made up in volume. The gas which is drawn off in the first step is stored for re-use, in pressure vessels filled with a heat-accumulating stuffing. The efficiency of a plant for the cleaning of gases by pressure swing adsorption processes in which pressure vessels are used for the temporary storage of expanded gas is improved. The capacity of the vessels to store the gas is considerably increased by stuffing them with a heat accumulating material, and the loss of product gas is considerably reduced.</p> |
