Hermetically sealed screw type refrigerant compressor - has oil separator within motor casing to reduce total space requirement

A helical screw compressor(1) has its driving rotor mounted on the shaft extension(2) of an electric motor(3). The compressor is bolted directly to the casing of the motor to form a single hermetically sealed unit. Gas is discharged from the compressor into an oil separator(8) in which the gas velocity drops so that the oil falls out of suspension by gravity. The oil separator is formed as an integral part of the motor casing and has the same inside diameter as the motor. Gas flows out from the oil separator through passages(10) in the motor stator.
