<p>Apparatus (10) for filtering particulate material from air and for removing the particulate material collected upon a filter is disclosed. The apparatus (10) includes a housing (12) having an air inlet (32) and an air outlet (38). A hollow longitudinally extending filter (62) is secured within the housing. The filter (62) has an outer surface, an open interior (65), opposite ends (66, 68), and a longitudinal axis extending between the ends. The filter (62) is formed of a porous media. One end (66) of the filter (62) is removably secured relative to the housing (12) so that the longitudinal axis of the filter (62) extends generally vertically. The other end (68) of the filter (62) is closed. A first chamber (42) is defined around the outer surface of the filter (62). The chamber (42) is in communication with the air inlet (32) whereby air moving from the inlet (32) to the outlet (38) passes through the filter (62) into the interior (65) thereof and deposits particulate material on the outer surface of the filter (62). A mechanism (110) is provided for removing the particulate material collected on the outer surface of the filter (62). The mechanism (110) for removing the particulate material includes a device (112) connected to the closed end (68) for rotating the closure plate (72) and the end (68) of the filter (62) attached thereto to twist the filter (62). </p> |
