PURPOSE:To level the fastening force applied to a cylinder liner from a cylinder barrel by forming a fastening force decreasing groove forming a gap to the cylinder liner outer circumferential face at the inner face of barrel near a crank case on the exhaust passage side of a cylinder block. CONSTITUTION:Inside each barrel 6 of cylinder block 1 made from aluminum alloy, a cast iron cylinder liner 5 is shrinkage fitted and fixed, while at each barrel 6, there is formed an excavation passage 10 arranged in opposition to an exhaust passage 7 (shown by dotted line) and side excavation passages 11 to 14 symmetrical around an axis of symmetry formed by a center line O1-O2 connecting the passages. In this kind of engine, at the passage 7 of barrel 6, fastening force reducing grooves 17, 18 extending to the side end of crank case are formed. The grooves serve to prevent fastening force to act on a liner similarly as the respective excavation passages 10-14 and to prevent the liner to act its fastening force in support parts 19... substantially distributed at an equal interval. |
