The high speed overhead electric traction system has the wiper bars (3) set proud in an aerodynamic plate (2) which generates lift to press the wipers into the rail and prevent arcing. The rear of the plate is provided with variable control flaps (5) so that the pressure can be adjusted with the speed of the vehicle. The system provides a minimum of drag, and hence vibration, with a maximum of wiping efficiency. All the parts of the pickup system are streamlined for high speed, while the plate itself can be made of strong, lightweight carbon fibre. |
