In the system an internal combustion engine drives a refrigerant compressor (4) and a radiator fan. The fan blows the engine exhaust gases over the evaporator (2) of a refrigerant circuit forming a heat pump. Water from a reservoir (1) flows over the heat pump condenser (3), through the engine cooling jacket and through a heat exchanger (6) in which it is heated by the engine exhaust. The water then flows to the pump (7) of the cleaning machine. The engine exhaust flows through the exchanger (6) to heat the water and then continues to the evaporator (2) to give up the rest of its heat. The unit requires no electrical connection and uses the fuel very efficiently.
